Metal swarf is an important raw material and a valuable commodity for the steel and non-ferrous metals (NFM) processing and recycling industry. Recycling of these materials serves to close material loops, improve resource efficiency, secure the supply of raw materials and avoid negative environmental impacts, such as CO2 emissions. These measures are part of the most important objectives of the German Federal Government with respect to environmental and resource policy (cf. German ‘ProgRess’ Resource Efficiency Programme).
