Novelis has brought a newly developed alloy onto the market for the automotive industry, with up to 75 percent recycled content. The RC5754 alloy is particularly suitable for the manufacture of structural components in high-volume production in the area of body construction. The alloy was developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover and represents a central element of the REALCAR (REcycled ALuminium CAR) project. RC5754 was used for the first time in the new Jaguar XE and will be used in future in all existing and new Jaguar Land Rover models.

"As market leader in the development of innovative alloys and in aluminium recycling, Novelis is proud to play such a leading role in sustainable vehicle manufacturing together with Jaguar Land Rover," said Pierre Labat, Vice President and General Manager, Automotive, of Novelis Europe. "Not only does our new RC5754 alloy satisfy Jaguar Land Rover's high REALCAR recycled material content requirements, it also provides the strength, durability and formability required by the world's leading engineers at Jaguar Land Rover." Effective 1 April 2016 Mr. Labat will assume the position of Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Global Automotive.

The REALCAR programme instituted in 2008 by Jaguar Land Rover is a multi-stakeholder initiative established to develop a closed production loop for vehicle construction in which vehicles can be recycled at the end of their product life cycle and fed back into production again. The RC5754 aluminium alloy developed by Novelis specifically for the REALCAR programme is designed to contain a large amount of recycled material, so that even more processed aluminium can be absorbed from the vehicle scrapping process than has ever been possible before.

Novelis works with many of the world's leading car brands and supplies them with an entire pallet of strong, formable and lightweight rolled aluminium products, which are currently being used in more than 180 vehicle models, such as the new Ford F-150 and Range Rover with aluminium body. Novelis forecasts a rise in global demand for aluminium sheet for body manufacturing of about 25 percent annually by the end of the decade. The company has considerably expanded its production capacity in recent years in Europe, North America and Asia to meet this demand.
