This year Trimet Aluminium SE is again on hand at the International Motor Show (IAA) from 17 to 27 September 2015. With Harzgerode and Sömmerda, two production sites equipped to satisfy the needs of the automotive industry, the medium-size materials specialist enjoys success in this branch as innovative system supplier. Special alloys and tailor-made products made of aluminium contribute to a reduction in weight and higher efficiency in motor vehicles. The steadily-rising demand for structural parts made of aluminium in the automotive industry is causing disproportionately high growth in this area of business.
In the past decade Trimet has spent around 200 million euros on developing its two sites in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt to meet the rising demand and expand its product portfolio. Some of the main areas of focus in the automotive area are mechatronics parts for automatic transmissions, transmission and clutch housings, and structural parts such as A-pillars and hinge seats, but also engine blocks. Since 2009 Trimet has also been the exclusive supplier of chassis parts for a notable German car maker. Since then Trimet has shipped out more than four million of these parts, which are manufactured in a chill-casting process at the Harzgerode site. "Weight reduction remains a permanent issue in the global automotive industry. But the potential of aluminium here is far from exhausted," said Luigi Mattina, member of the executive board of Trimet.
With machinery ranging from 530 to 4,100 tonnes and the recently-commissioned, highly-automated gravity die-casting plant, the Trimet locations in Central Germany are fully equipped to meet a wide range of demands. From here, the family-operated company ships out parts to all notable car manufacturers and components suppliers. In future the Trimet sites in Essen, Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne and Castelsarrasin will increasingly focus production on products for customers in the automotive industry. That is why the foundries there are currently undergoing expansion. "Currently we are experiencing a rising demand for special wires for further use in coupling components and for wiring harnesses. Demand has also increased in the area of rolling ingots made of special alloys. With our many years of experience, our own research department and a broad portfolio of products, we are the development partner for the car of tomorrow," said Mattina.
