Trimet looks back on successful year

05.10.2015

Trimet Aluminium SE in Essen can look back on a successful anniversary year. The materials specialist, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, concluded the 2014/2015 (30 June) financial year with a consolidated turnover of 1.8 billion euros (previous year: 1.3 billion euros).

By expanding its capacity, the company was able to satisfy the continuing high demand for aluminium alloys, and enjoyed profitable growth. With the further expansion and modernisation of its production facilities, Trimet is positioning itself during the current financial year to meet the increasing demand for innovative aluminium solutions, and producing sustainable jobs in the process.

Trimet's aluminium smelters, foundries and remelting plants worked at full capacity throughout the financial year that just ended, and produced a total of approximately 740,000 tonnes of aluminium. With almost 2,900 employees, the Trimet group achieved a profit margin of 3.4 per cent. The adjusted result of 61 million euros is offset by investments to the tune of 76 million euros. "Again in the past financial year we invested considerably in our production facilities. We have largely our employees to thank for the fact that we have been successful at this throughout our 30 years of operation. We would also like to thank our customers and all our business partners, without whose trust and many years of loyalty we could not have survived," says Dr. Martin Iffert, CEO of Trimet Aluminium SE.

In the recently concluded financial year, Trimet invested primarily in the expansion of its production facilities. Expansion work on the foundry in Essen is almost complete. A new continuous casting plant with an annual capacity of 60,000 tonnes will be put into operation at the end of 2015. At the new Trimet location in Voerde, additional electrolytic furnaces were modernised in order to achieve full production capacity, and in Saint-Jean-de-Maurienne, the company put decommissioned electrolytic furnaces into operation again. With this, the aluminium smelter in the French Alps is working at full capacity again for the first time in ten years. Trimet is also expanding the attached foundry. Aside from the high quality aluminium wire, the site now also produces rolling ingots and casting alloys, primarily for the automotive industry.
