Exhibition hall 6, built in 1963 by architect Martin Schoenmarkers, can be found in the middle of the Frankfurt exhibition grounds. On a base area of approx. 160m x 70m, 35,500 m² of exhibition space is distributed over four hall levels. In the course of refurbishing work for fire safety reasons the Novelis FF2 painted aluminium siding was installed within six months during ongoing operations. It turned out to be the ideal facade material for this project for the refurbishing work and renovation of the exhibition hall.
Novelis’ FF2 coloured aluminium is especially suited because of its weather-resistant, high-quality PVdF coating. Of decisive importance here was the excellent workability of FF2, as well as its A1 fire classification (incombustible) in accordance with DIN EN 13501. FF2 is 100% recyclable and is produced subject to the strictest of environmental regulations and using a high proportion of recycled material.
The pre-coated, painted aluminium sheets with their permissible load of 96 MPa in accordance with DIN 4113 were edged on all sides and installed as cassettes with a clip fastener, similar to a panel. The advantage of this method is the economical implementation of the substructure, and considerably faster installation for optimum cost effectiveness. The firm Radabau GmbH carried out the installation of the facade.
Approx. 6000 m² of Novelis FF2 painted aluminium and 500m² Novelis FF3 painted aluminium in the colours silversmith metallic and matt grey were used. Now, after completion of the refurbishing work, the exhibition hall shines in its new look. Through the use of the different colour shades, planned by the architects Kölling Architekten, the hall has been given a new, modern outfit.
