Fraunhofer IPA lowers energy consumption required for anodising

A new anodising method should save around 40 per cent of the energy costs of surface treating for light metals. The new technique was developed by the Electroplating Department of the Fraunhofer Institute for Production Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart.

Bernd Schäfer is the new Chairman of the GDA Aluminium Semis Division

Bernd Schäfer, Alcoa Global Rolled Products´ Commercial Vice President for Commercial Transportation and Industrial has been appointed new Chairman of the Aluminium Semis Division within the GDA . Frank Busenbecker, General Manager of Erbslöh Aluminium GmbH, was elected Vice Chairman of the Division.

Positive development of business activity in aluminium sector

The signs are pointing to growth: the German aluminium industry clearly outpaced economic growth as a whole last year and it is also expecting the economic trend to be stable in 2015. Some 1,130,100 tonnes of aluminium were produced in Germany in 2014.

Hydro invests in sorting technology for recycling

Hydro Aluminium is continuing to expand its recycling business and is taking over WMR Recycling GmbH (WMR) in Dormagen. Hydro has been working with the former owners of WMR since 2013 in the form of a reprocessing agreement, in which multiple recycling plants of Hydro are supplied with sorted and shredded scrap from various sources and products.

SGL Group and Hydro partnering to develop new cathode technology

The SGL Group and the Norwegian aluminium concern Hydro want to exploit potential in the manufacturing process of primary aluminium to save energy. The aim is to jointly develop new kinds of cathodes in this three-year project.

A new tank system made of drawn aluminium tube for use in dust collection plants allows high pulse volumes and is corrosion resistant. The tank’s innovative aluminium profile combined with the patented clamp construction allow high flow rates and high volumes per pulse.
